Artist Statement

I create stone sculptures that grow out of my practice of balancing rocks in White Rock, British Columbia. What begins as a fleeting, performative act of balance is reimagined in the studio into lasting form through cutting, grinding, and joining stone. Each sculpture is internally secured with stainless steel pins and industrial epoxy, allowing the illusion of impossibility to become permanent.

My work explores the tension between weight and lightness, solidity and fragility. Negative spaces within the sculpture are as vital as the stones themselves—quiet passages that suggest hidden narratives and invite viewers to consider what is absent as much as what is present. The forms hover between natural placement and constructed intervention, blurring where chance ends and intention begins.

Through this work, I aim to create forms that engage both the eye and the imagination, encouraging a deeper awareness of balance, presence, and the quiet poetry of stone.
